The Hendersons discuss Walter's grandfather's immigration from Denmark to West Branch, Iowa where he met his wife; Emma's family's membership in the Friends church; the Quaker community, worship services, marriage practices and schools; conscientious objectors and attitudes toward Germans during World War I and II; breeding and raising cattle and cattle pedigrees; farm machinery; threshing rings; farm chores; cooking and meals; canning and curing meats; the Depression; renting farmland; soil conservation; breeding and selling draft horses and treating their illnesses.

Robert Franklin Worley (b. 1919, Riverside, Calif.-d. July 23, 1968), U.S. Air Force officer, graduated from pilot training and received his commission in 1941. During World War II he participated in the North African, Sicily, and Italian campaigns and Asia-Pacific Theater campaigns, flying 120 aerial missions with 215 combat hours.
